West Hills A.P. Biology Students Attend
Scripps Young Scientist Lectures 2001

Left: "What is that thing?"

Group gathers at the sculpture. Notice there are seven students.

Right: "Anybody do background research?"

Andy Pascall searched the net to learn about the days lectures. Later, two of his questions were selected to be answered and one scienctist said he was "impressed" by the nature of the question.

Center: "If we stand in front of the strairs, someone will have to talk to us -- to ask us to move!"

West Hills Students looking sharp.

Left: "Heads up!"

Mr. Park is on belay from the balcony above the gathering to get this shot. Brian is checking out the reflection from the flaash off his sneakers.

Right: "Comfy Chairs!"

As we settled in for three hours of lectures, we wished that the seats weren't so comfortable. Andy is checking out the "schwag bag". Leah is singing "The Hills are Alive" from the Sound of Music.

Below: "Where are my utensils?"

Note to future attendees of S.Y.S.L. -- the utensils are UNDER YOUR SANDWICH!"

Left: "Hey - I wonder what this machine is...look at the pretty buttons A...G...C...T...U"
"Gravity 1, magnetism 0" at the door to the MRI
"They're neck and neck!" Closer to the MRI.
Magnetism wins! Scans the brain and cleans the pockets!
Right: As the sun set over the cliff at Torrey Pines, we gathered once again. This role call resulted in one more than we started with - can you guess who got accidentally cloned as we toured through the molecular biology labs?
